Religious Education

At St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School, Religious Education is part of the daily curriculum for all students. Religious Education lessons are based on the Western Australian Religious Education units of work produced by Catholic Education Western Australia. Topics covered for each year level include Sacraments (Baptism, Eucharist, Penance and Confirmation), Prayer, Bible, Church, Jesus, Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas. The knowledge component of this learning is assessed and included in semester reports. Students in Years 3 and 5 annually participate in 'The Bishop's Religious Literacy Assessment.'

The school supports the students and parents in the sacramental and faith development of each child through the parish sacramental programs. Children are prepared for the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation) in Year 3, Eucharist (Holy Communion) in Year 4 and Confirmation in Year 6 at school, and receive the Sacraments at St Andrew’s Parish, Clarkson in accordance with Archdiocesan guidelines. As the first faith educators of their children, our parents are an integral part of this preparation, and are encouraged to be supportive and involved in the process. Parent information sessions and parent/child workshops are held as part of the preparation for each sacrament.

We maintain a strong link with the St Andrew’s Parish, and Parish Priests, Fr. Dariusz Basiaga SDS and Fr. Marian Brzozowski SDS. The St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School community regularly participate in whole school and class liturgical celebrations throughout each term.
